I’ve been so excited to upload this lookout since I went last night – no one I have spoken to has heard about it and it is honestly a must-see if you’re in Sydney. It was a very easy train ride (one transfer, 1.25 hours total) and a quick bus, or walk, west to the spot. Take the train from Sydney to Berowra station and you can then walk the 2.5ish kms to Barnetts Lookout, stopping at Coles along the way for some snacks. I arrived there about an hour before sunset and enjoyed the diffused light spilling over the valley. The lookout also faces west so there is great potential for beautiful sunsets. I appreciated walking through Berowra to get a little peak at life in smaller towns in the Sydney region, and the people I spoke to were very friendly and seemed surprised I made the trip to see their “little lookout”. While at the lookout, I veered off the path a little (right side) to get a little closer to the cliff edge (see pic). I ended up sitting on a nice rock ledge overlooking the valley. While I would recommend this for great pictures, I’d advise caution as the area seems quite conducive for snakes, and a misstep could be costly near the edge. Walking back after dark, I was struck by the amazing smells of the forest and town; I can’t do the description justice, but it was very earthy, organic, fresh, and somehow “Australian”. I would happily go back to the lookout, as it is so easy to get to (9-5ers could even shoot up there after work in time for the sunset) and offered a gorgeous vista of the valley.
